The Difference Between Airplanes & Gliders

Gliders, also known as sailplanes or sailcraft, are a type of aircraft that stays aloft without any power derived from an engine. The construction of sailplanes is largely similar to that of standard airplanes. An airplane has an internal combustion engine that generates the power to propel it forward and to generate lift, a glider has no engine. The glider attains an initial velocity, which produces lift, by relying on an external mechanism.
