The History, Evolution and Future of Hybrid Vehicles

The first documented hybrid car was developed in 1899 by Dr. Ferdinand Porsche. His hybrid vehicle, the “Mixte,” used a gas engine to turn an electricity-generating dynamo that powered electric motors in the hubs of the two front wheels. Using the mechanics of regenerative braking, hybrid vehicles store captured kinetic energy in a lithium battery or dynamo. Battery technology has advanced significantly in a short time and will likely continue to do so in the foreseeable future.
